Interview with Wanda Soto

  • Tell us a bit about your job as an ABA Therapist.

My job as a BCBA is filled with smiles and joy.  Every day I look forward to meeting with our clients and our staff, connect with families and collaborating with members in the community. My job is the most rewarding when we get to celebrate our clients progressing and achieving their small milestones. In addition, it gives me the opportunity to teach and train others with the goal to spread awareness on our children’s ability to learn essential skills to promote their quality of life.

  • What drove you to the ABA Therapist profession?

I learned about ABA when I met an RBT in Hawaii. My daughter gave me a phone number to call her friends mom to plan a play date.  When we connected, she told me she was an RBT, and that was the first time I ever heard about this field. At that moment she explained what ABA was; she connected me with her supervisor and invited me to visit the center.  I remember as she was talking that I admired how she was smiling and was being insightful about her supportive, flexible and fun filled work environment.  Out of curiosity, I accepted the invitation, and it was love at first sight! I experienced a space that promoted inclusion, recognized the importance of continued efforts, celebrated progress, and was tailored to advocate independence.  Since then, my love for ABA has only continued growing.

If I were to wish one thing that people knew about my job, it would be the time and dedication we spend behind the scenes.  Our job comes with great success stories, but the journey to success can be challenging for the individuals and their families.

  • What have you gained from working at Golden Care?

Since I started working with Golden Care, I have gained confidence and security that I’m not working alone, leading to continued professional growth and financial stability, while I also contribute with purpose and commitment to the population we serve. In addition, the flexible work schedule allows me the opportunity to manage time to spend with my family.

  • What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given?

To be a firm believer of commitment and consistency has been the best advice I have gotten in my career.

  • What’s the one thing you’d tell your younger self?

I wish I knew ABA sooner. Following my heart towards my career path in ABA was my best decision ever.
