Indiana Officer Rescues Toddler from Pool

Body-cam footage released by police captures the heart-stopping moment an Indiana officer rescued a missing toddler from a pool.

A family in Indiana is overwhelmed with gratitude after their neurodivergent child, Aziel Calvillo, was saved from a neighbor’s pool. The toddler, who had wandered off, was found floating on his back by a quick-thinking officer after the family called for help.

The search and rescue were recorded on the officer’s body-cam, showing the intense moment when Aziel was found.

“My friend goes, ‘Where’s your son?’ So I was like, he should’ve been on the couch watching his tablet,” Aziel’s father, Alex Calvillo, explained to WPTA.

Alex also mentioned that his son has a tendency to wander.

“I look out the kitchen doorway and see that the garage door was open, so I immediately ran out and started looking for him and couldn’t find him,” he told the station.

Aziel’s mother, Savannah Ybarra, was reaching out to neighbors for help.

“Like okay, this is serious, I need to call the cops. They’re all out looking for him as well and it’s obviously nerve-wracking at this time, and with being pregnant it’s even more stressful because I’m just like I don’t know where he’s at,” Ybarra told the outlet.

When the police arrived, the family informed Officer Evan Myers that Aziel loves water and enjoys swimming. Moments later, the officer heard a cry from a nearby backyard and found the toddler floating in a pool, thanks to the family’s tip about his fondness for water.

“Every time, since he was one, when we would go swimming in the summer I’ve kind of held him on his back so he could try and float above water. I’m pretty sure that’s what played a role in him wanting to stay there,” Alex Calvillo explained.

The family is beyond thankful for the officer’s actions.

“I want to personally thank him for finding my son,” Savannah Ybarra expressed.

“I definitely want to give him a huge thanks, I can’t describe how grateful I am for him. It definitely means a lot to us and our family,” added Alex Calvillo.

Following the rescue, the family plans to install a fence to prevent future incidents and ensure their son stays safe.
